Biggest Solar Park in Europe completed

India, Dec. 30 -- The construction of the biggest solar park in Europe has been completed in Ukraine by Austrian developer Activ Solar GmbH. The park has capacity to generate 100 megawatt electricity. Ukraine's government is encouraging investments in renewable energy as it tries to decrease the reliance of the country on coal and nuclear power.
Currently 90 per cent of Ukraine's power is generated by thermal and nuclear plants. Ukraine is home to the Chernobyl nuclear disaster- the biggest nuclear power plant accident in history.
According to the statement released by Activ Solar GmbH around 300 million Euros was incurred on this project. Solar energy has got a boost in 2011 as prices of solar panels have declined by more than 40 per cent this year. The high costs of solar panels are the biggest hurdle to mass adoption of solar energy. However, after the decline in prices this year, investments in solar energy plants in countries around the world, including United States, increased greatly.
